Hi,

Just as I said before, I start posting the summary here.
So, let start it now, this post contain some info about:

  • Result of wrong OS type installation in VM with different OS type
  • VMware HA (Design, fail-over, …)

Result of wrong OS type installation in VM with different OS type

One configuration/step during the creation of new VM, is defining the OS type for that VM.

If any other OS except the OS type selected for VM, installed on VM, some of the following even (or all of them) may occurs:

  • Some performance issues (according to different method of memory access and addressing, …)
  • This would cause the incorrect VMware Tools to get installed in the VM
  • If the correct MCA/MCE architecture is not presented to the guest during boot may be it wouldn’t start at all

How to fix it:

  • Power off the VM.
  • Modify via GUI option General of the properties of your VM.
  • Power on the VM.
  • Reinstall the correct VMware Tools.

VMware HA (Design, fail-over, …)

When designing or using VMware HA, it’s better to take care of some element in order to get better performance, availability and facing less problem/error.

  • Setup/configure second SC/management network so you would have to path for check for host isolation.
  • Don’t use default just because they are default, check the other options and compare their result for your own situation. (Number of allowed host failures …)
  • For getting better result from your ha cluster, prevent using resource (cpu/memory) reservation as much as you can, as it affect directly the ha cluster performance (slot size/number of slot in cluster, …)
  • When using ha on Blade servers, on more than one enclosure use more smaller (at least two) cluster instead of one big cluster.

Feel free to leave comments or any idea you have.
These information are summary (or better say notes) I took during my studies for future use.
If I miss anything; please correct me, thanks.

Hi,

One of my system in lab crashed and I lost some source of my programs.

It will take a time to fix that system (as it was my storage server – unfortunately) and prepare my source again.

I will post the scenario and my lab info as soon as It get ready.

by the way, I still have one exam to take and I don’t know when! (It’s the big problem for me – as I always have the map and time for all my courses and my exams)

OK, Lets get back to our virtualization world.

From now on, I’ll Add a new category for summary of everything I’m reading in a day/week.

I hope this one goes well and not be like “preparation for exam notes”.

So, may be it helps some of you to save your time by just reading summary. ;)

Hi

Just during a test a scenario I face something interesting which I thought it would be good to share it here.

So, from now on – I’ll share my personal work on VMware vSphere here (this time it wouldn’t be like my Exams notes ;) )

OK, let start.

As all of you know we have two king of virtual disk in the VMware vSphere, Yess, Thin-disk and Thick-disk.

As all of us know, the thick-disks size would be as the size we want, and it will get the space as soon as we press the button of Finish or Create.

In the other hand, we have the thin-disk which shouldn’t be like this. so it means, it must get the space as we start using it.

We all know it.

When you check it in the datastore browser, you will see this two image for think and thick disk.

Thin-disk

Thin-002

Thin-003

Thick-disk

Thick-002

Thick-003

But what is the status of disk-flat.vmdk for these two disk (you can check it via console or by using ssh)? can you guess?

First Thick-disk

Thick-004

And now, the Thin-disk

Thin-004

Is the last photo is what you expected to see? Why should VMware show us the actual usage in datastore browser but show something else in console?

by the way, check the size

thin and thick have the same size, 40GB which shown as 42949672960, by dividing this number to 40, you will have “1,073,741,824

2 weeks remain

Hello,

I have 2 weeks off from my work and I decide to start reconfig my Home LAB and make a new scenario for my personal learning.

I will post the full map and information about it here, today, after I write them down on paper (I mean “Typing/Drwaing” them :D )

OK, I’ll back with new scenario and LAB config.

Hello Every one,

my first flight time changed because UAE didn’t get me Visa ontime.

I get it just after flight has gone.

All program changed from 21st-26th changed to 26th/Jan – 1st/Feb.

I’m actually in Dubai, in hotel (when writing this).

few hours ago I took my Microsoft Exam (70-643) after 3 days reading it in hotel room.

I just pass this exam too, and it means I have one remaining Exam to take in order to achieving my MCITP Certification.

For some reason I can’t write more about this travel, at least now.

For now, Bye.
